The Jamestown Police Department provides fingerprinting services 7 days a week to Town residents and Jamestown School Department employees or prospective employees. All others must go to their local police department or the RI Attorney General's Office located at 150 South Main Street in Providence.
The fee for being fingerprinted is $35 payable by cash (exact change) or check. The results will be mailed directly to your employer or prospective employer typically within 7 business days.
Lieutenant Deneault and Sergeant Catlow are both certified child safety seat technicians. Either of these officers can demonstrate how to properly install your child safety seat in your vehicle. Please call the police station to ask when one of these officers will be on duty and able to assist you.
If you recently purchased a vehicle from out of State or wish to register your out of State vehicle here in RI you must first obtain a VIN inspection if the vehicle is less than 10 years old. VIN inspections are performed 7 days a week at the Jamestown Police Department for Jamestown residents only. The fee is $10 payable by cash (exact change) or check.
You must bring the vehicle, title, and driver's license with you. If the vehicle is currently unregistered do not drive it to the police station. Call the station at 401-423-1212 and you may make arrangements for an officer to respond to your residence to perform the inspection.
The fee for an alarm permit is $36 per year. Applications may be obtained at the Jamestown Police Department or by clicking here.
You will be billed annually for your alarm system. Also, if the police and/or fire department responds to your residence more than two time in a 365-day period for a false alarm you will be fined $10 for the third and all subsequent false alarms. After a 4th false alarm you will be required to notify the Chief of Police within 15 days what steps you have taken to prevent any future false alarms. Failure to do so will result in the revocation of your alarm permit.
The Jamestown Police Department responds to approximately 300 accidental/false alarms each year. These responses tie up the limited resources of the police department and cause the volunteer fire department to mobilize when there is no actual emergency.
If you will be away from your Jamestown home for an extended period of time you may request the police department perform period checks of your residence. Officers will check the residence and make sure all doors and windows are secure and remain that way during your absence.
If you would like to request a house check you may do so by submitting a House Check Request. The form may be obtained at the police station or by clicking here.
